Choir History
The Stour Choral Society came to fruition over 50 years ago through the joining of two church choirs who had previously performed separately in the area a performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion.
The first joint concert was held in December 1971 with 65 people singing Part I of The Messiah. From early days local and distinguished soloists supported the Society and conductors such as Laszlo Heltay and John Fear established the choir’s good reputation in the area. This was followed some years later by its connections and joint ventures with the Kantorei in Frankenberg, Germany.
Performances have been given in local churches and halls in Manningtree, Mistley, Dedham, East Bergholt, Frinton and Clacton.
